From a dualistic perspective, this chart makes sense, suggesting virtue is found in the middle of two extremes.

This is not unlike the Buddhist concept of near enemies.

But from a non-dualistic attitude, thinking in terms of excess and deficiency is a product of a mind trapped in relative concepts.

In other words, an active sense of balance does not exist. The middle is found without effort but it was never the goal.
